Torres del Paine 11th to 15th Dec

Most of the overlanders did 'The W' trek, with one crew member going along to provide safety back up and the other 2 crew plus 7 of us back at the campsite. After a tough bush camp, this camp site was a sight for sore eyes. A bbq and hut to set up our kitchen in, surrounded by trees, a 'lago' and then my favourite mountain view so far (favourite because of all the different types of rock). Lots of different birds hanging around and although I am no twitcher, the birds here are so different to anything I'm used to seeing, and so playful with us, they're captivating to watch. Even seagulls look like they're wearing bright orange boots. We also had endless hot water once Mikkel found the incoming tap behind the shower block and turned it up full. Ha!
Whilst the 'W'-ers took on the big peaks, some of us went on a 10km trek to see a waterfall. Nice. Caught up on washing, read a book, and cooked up a pumpkin soup and ghoulash for the trekkers return. Very relaxing time here. The scenery is quite stunning, even the spooky white and black burnt trees, which are the byproduct of a fire set by some tourists a couple of years ago. It took out 10% of this national park and I didn't see a bit of the park that wasn't affected. It's sad to think how long it will take to recover in this brutal climate.
