1 - 4 April - coffee plantations in Manizales and Salento

Next stop, the Colombian coffee plantations. Stunning scenery to get to these, which are all in the mountains. We stopped at a couple of campsites in two locations, did a coffee tour, a coffee tasting, roasted our own beans and I now know how to operate one of those uber expensive espresso machines so look out for me in Starbucks when I get home. Getting to the first site involved us driving the wrong way on a dual carriageway to get through the gate (the site was there before the road, doh!) and the second involved us all jumping in 1950s jeeps 'Willys' as we were told our truck wouldn't get on site (she did later).

Anthony relaxing (!)

Pete and Mikkel testing the lasagne.....seconds before the heavens opened and everyone ran away

I'm getting hints of chocolate and moss

Hilly hills

Them there coffee plants

If I lived somewhere dry, I would love one of these

The plantation owners' house. Nice.

We played 'Tejo' in Salento, a Colombian game in which each player throws a metal weight at a metal ring, sat in a clay bed, on which are placed paper arrows with a bit of gunpowder in them. Points are won for getting the weight embedded in the clay and extra points for getting an explosion. It was great fun, with any explosion triggering riotous cheers from us all.

8 in the back? No problem

And.....fling!

Jose shows Francois how to set the gunpowder in the clay

Google earth car gets everywhere!

Now we're in the mountains, it has gotten a little cooler and jeans and jumpers have been rediscovered in our luggage.

Lots of ponchos jauntily thrown over one shoulder and machetes here

My first feather pillow and feather duvet in 4 months. Loved it. Simple pleasures.

Duncan's man-flu led to baby food comfort eating!

Vanessa, Anthony, Tony, Mikkel and Geoff waiting for fire. All the wood (top right) got burnt that night.
